Background:
Trisnic (formerly Z-Tel) was developing a unified messaging product for aggregating all messaging types, including email, voice mail, fax, and advanced telephony features, into a single Web-based application. The product development team had roughed out a user interface approach but was not equipped to fully realize a design or to address usability issues.
Role:
Web application user-centered UI design, information architecture, interaction design; project management; user research.
Process & Results:
I began by interviewing the development team and key executives to assess business objectives. I followed that with a thorough comparative analysis of products in a similar market space. I then organized desired functionality according to user tasks in order to identify and prioritize key application components and to focus engineering efforts.
The final deliverable comprised a fully documented UI design, functionality rationales, wireframes for every screen and dialog, and a comprehensive blueprint of the completed application. The blueprint and design documents allowed the development team to clearly see application interconnections, evaluate interdependencies, and better understand the user experience.
